Difficult but recoverable
BVT management took part in a large-scale Forum – the Conference “Difficult but recoverable oil reserves: from assessment to development” which was held by PJSC “Belorusneft” on May 21-23, 2025 in Minsk. This conference became a milestone event for the industry and brought together leading oil and gas companies, relevant agencies of Belarus and the enterprises invited from the Russian Federation – the leaders of Russian oil production and oilfield services.
More than 150 specialists met at the conference to exchange production experience in the development of hard-to-reach and unconventional hydrocarbon resources.
The conference became a platform for discussing modern technologies and innovative solutions aimed at increasing the efficiency of hard-to-recover reserves production. The first place among these solutions is occupied by the Plug & Perf technology, and its first application in Belarus in 2019 became, according to the management of Belorusneft, “a revolution in the oil and gas industry of the post-Soviet territory.”
According to the General Director of the Production Association “Belorusneft” Alexander Lyakhov, “whereas in 2024 Belarus produced 1.938 million tons of oil for the first time, this year we are going to produce 2 million 5 thousand tons,” which is associated exclusively with the development of hard-to-recover reserves and the use of Plug&Perf technology.
BVT is proud that it was our company that became the equipment supplier and contributed to the implementation of the Plug&Perf technology and its large-scale application in the production practice of PJSC “Belorusneft”. The results achieved by the Production Association “Belorusneft”, our strategic partner, are the main indicator of our activities and the correct choice of our grow path. Over more than 10 years of successful cooperation and due to Western sanctions, BVT has achieved complete import independence of the equipment complex for work using the Plug&Perf technology for high-speed multi-stage hydraulic fracturing, successfully used at the fields of the Production Association "Belorusneft". We are confident that only permanent interaction with the Customer, commitment to innovation and continuous technological development, and analysis of production experience guarantee success and high efficiency of joint projects.
During the practical session at the Rechitsa field on the final day of the Forum, the participants saw the works using the ZipperFrac technology (simultaneous hydraulic fracturing in two horizontal wells of the hole), which, in combination with the Plug&Perf technology, allows to increase the area and number of cracks in the rock, and therefore, to successfully develop an unconventional reservoir. The works under the Plug&Perf technology were carried out by the BVT perforation assembly with an Addressable Initiation System using new-generation electronic address keys.
The head of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic of Belarus, Sergei Maslyak, when speaking at the conference, noted that “the development of hard-to-recover reserves holds enormous potential that can ensure energy stability for decades to come.” “The Belarusian-Russian partnership in the context of hard-to-recover reserves has a lot of room for growth,” emphasized the head of the State Commission on Mineral Reserves, Igor Shpurov.
